Project
The project aims to contribute to SDG #4.7 by providing and opening spaces for inclusive and equitable quality education for children from disadvantaged villages. We focus on fostering intercultural understanding and breaking down language barriers by offering children access to educational and cultural activities, as volunteers visit multiple villages during the project duration

Role

Project Activities

Week 1
Preparing teaching materials and teaching flow (english basics, cultural stories, manners education, simple art activities) also for mental-support sessions (confidence building, emotional check-ins).
EPs visit Medan heritage sites and introduced to Medan multicultural identity (Melayu-Batak-Chinese-Indian-Javanese influences) to understand how local culture elements can be included in teaching.
EPs crafting teaching methodology and designing classroom management strategis for children, with also integrating play-based learning, language-learning and cultural exposure.
Exchange participants arrived in Medan to run their projects.
Introduction to AIESEC, incoming Global Volunteer (iGV), cultural insights in North Sumatera, understanding the Opprotunity Provider (OP) taker, project expectation, weekly flow and outcomes.
EPs visit SRT 30 Medan to observe classes, meet teachers, explore the facilities, and interact with students to understand their learning styles and needs. The day will begin with a ceremony and an opening speech from the headmaster to welcome and introduce the exchange participants to the school community.
Week 2
EPs share folk tales from their countries using drama, hand puppets, and props.
EPs will conduct session that include emotional check-in ("How are you feeling today?") cards, stress relief games, storytelling or music, that will be encouraging students to express emotions in safe ways.
Topics will be about honesty, respect, asking permission, three magic word (sorry, please and thank you), and how to behave in public, there will be a short role-play scenarios and group reflection circle.
EPs will teach basic english vocabularies or conversational practice, focus on confidence building.

Week 3
Reflection and improvements on teaching
Students create artwork representing EPs’ home countries (flag painting, paper crafts, drawing landmarks, cultural symbols) and EPs explain the cultural meaning behind each symbol.
EPs teach English through Vocabulary games, matching, singing, spelling races (elementary school) and group presentations, simple dialogues, asking & answering questions (senior high school).
Topics will be about discipline, responsibility, respecting others', there will be also small group discussion and before-after behavior chart activity to visualize improvement.
Fun therapeutic games (trust walk, observation game, friendship building game), “I am Proud Of…” session to boost self-esteem and Safe-space sharing circle moderated by EPs.
Week 4
EPs guide and assist for students rehearse performances (Medan cultural dance, Karo song, short theatrical play, pantun recitation, artwork display).
Students present performances showcasing Medan & North Sumatra culture where Parents, teachers, and community members attend. EPs also share a small cultural performance from their home country for mutual exchange
A formal closing event where EPs, students, teachers, and community members gather to celebrate the completion of the Happy Bus project, include welcome remarks, student performances, testimonial sharing, certificate awarding for EPs and participants, a photo session, and a final gratitude message to the host school and community.
