Project Explorer [4 weeks]
The project aims to contribute to SDG #15 by educating beneficiaries on local ecosystems and sustainable practices. It focuses on promoting biodiversity awareness and teaching ways to protect natural habitats. Through hands-on activities, beneficiaries will learn how to minimize environmental impact and develop a sense of responsibility for conservation.

Life On Land - Target 15.1

By 2020, ensure the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems and their services, in particular forests, wetlands, mountains and drylands, in line with obligations under international agreements

Role

Project Activities

Week 1
Learn about the mangrove ecosystem, its functions, and services
Understand the importance of mangroves and threats to conservation
Introduction to faunal diversity in mangrove ecosystems
Study mangrove species in Sri Lanka and their distribution
Introduction to workplace and first workday briefing
Week 2
Take part in lagoon-based clean-up programs
Engage in activities with the local youth society
Assist in plant nursery preparation (target: 1000 plants)
Conduct field observations (lagoon & mangrove ecosystem – Day 1)
Participate in museum-related activities
Week 3
Work with youth society on community activities
Continue museum-related activities
Participate in lagoon clean-up programs
Field observation (Day 2 – observing fishing techniques)
Continue plant nursery preparation (target: 1000 plants)
Week 4
Participate in lagoon clean-up programs
Field observation (Day 3 – data collection for mini research)
Finalize plant nursery preparation (target: 1000 plants)
Continue youth society engagement activities
Continue museum-related activities
